Meet Antonio from RF System Engineering. He’s been in sales for 3 years, but moved into RF to put some of his costly schooling to use. If he’s not on the running trail or practicing with his band, Dear Science, you can bet he’s dreaming about robots and trying to figure out which black hole will lead him to their world.

Meet Greg from App Software R&D. Greg enjoys programming, Battlestar Galactica, xkcd, and long walks on the beach, provided he has his smartphone. He also likes non-nerdy things, like….well, presumably something. A word of advice: don’t argue with him about C# versus Java, for that’s an hour you’ll never get back.

Meet Andy from Applications Engineering. Andy is the young blood of the Engineering Mind crew, introducing a fresh, new, intolerable perspective to the mix. In his free time, he enjoys complaining to anyone who will listen — a perfect fit for our team. This is his biggest achievement since fully understanding fixed-point notation. Today, he gives his two cents on the do-it-yourself craze all engineers fall prey to.

Meet Malcolm from Hardware R&D.  A Mechanical Engineer by degree, Malcolm has worked on mechanical, electrical, software and applications engineering throughout his 12 year career.  When not working long hours to learn a new discipline, Malcolm spends his time cycling for hours or working in his garage on any number of not quite complete projects.

Happy Tax Day, America! Over the next several weeks, we will be introducing six different engineers who will be sharing their unique perspectives. Today, meet Dan from Driver Software R&D. Dan has been programming professionally for over 13 years. He enjoys music, jogging and reading. He is also very, very bitter. Although he is generally liked by his coworkers, they are all secretly grateful that he is not studying for his pilot’s license.

Todd left in October to pursue other opportunities, and we held auditions to try to find someone who could advance the cause of engineers everywhere.  The new season starts Monday, April 18th!

For those of you that haven’t heard, Todd moved away in October to pursue other opportunities. We miss him and wish him the best. But several of us who have worked with Todd over the years wanted to keep the spirit of An Engineering Mind alive, to continue to inspire and entertain engineers everywhere. We’re hard at work creating new content and a new look for the show, which will debut on April 18th, 2011. For now, check out Todd’s ...

Embedded Systems Conference is taking place April 26-29th and Dr. Kaku is their keynote speaker.  I had a chance to sit down with Dr. Kaku and we talked about his geeky childhood, the likelihood of a Terminator-style robot uprising, and who is cooler: an engineer or a physicist.  We had such a good time that I had to break the interview down into two parts, so make sure to watch both.

Of course we go to parties.  We’re party animals.  You just don’t know that because we don’t go to YOUR parties.
